Dress to Impress

I saw a post on FB about the wedding dress Jennifer Lawrence wore as Katniss Everdeen, the character she plays in Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It was apparently designed by a young and upcoming 28 year old Tex Saverio; a fashion designer from Indonesia, who won the Mercedes-Benz Asia Fashion Award in 2005. Saverio’s designs have previously already been worn by Lady Gaga and Kim Kasardhian.

Saviero mentioned that the black dress Gaga wore, La Glacon, was a part of collection inspired by the nature of ice, which represents the idea of fragility outside and strength inside. This fragile texture was laser-cut, and surely not the only dress, which was made out of laser cutting. The other dresses, however, are even more impressive as they start to embody the idea of Baroque ornamentation, popularly used to celebrate the theatricality of space and its narrative.

So, here are some of the images that I found quite amazing as how the intricate details were created using harder materials, including metal and sculpture, to express certain drama in his work. I definitely look forward to his 2014 collection which will be his first international release.
